I have selected ‘With a Girl Like You’ by the Troggs. This song was covered by renaissance man David Sitek who is a member of TV on The Radio and has worked with the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs, and Jane's Addiction. You can add record producer, painter and photographer to his resume as well. Sitek’s cover was featured on Dark Was The Night, a 2CD compilation with great Indie music that benefited The Red Hot Organization, their goal being to increase awareness about AIDS and HIV. The song is constructed at a slower pace giving it more of a romantic feel in my opinion. It’s why I like it so much. The original is great too, but I get a peppier feeling about love then the sincerity of David Sitek’s approach to the lyrics that seem more intimate. I LOVE both versions differently. Take a listen and decide.

Song of The Week: It's Cover Month!
So it’s officially Cover Month! I have decided to feature what I feel are some pretty awesome covers of some fantastic songs that mostly everyone has heard. More recently movies, television and books have made numerous attempts at redoing our favorite things in pop culture and attaching a new style to them in order to gain new audiences. But the musical cover has lasted ages in my opinion. From Buddy Holly singing ‘You’re So Square’ a song that was recorded first by Elvis Presley in Jailhouse Rock to the infamous Aretha Franklin covering ‘Respect’ by Otis Redding and the popular song ‘Hallelujah’ originally sung by Leonard Cohen then covered by the late Jeff Buckley. Music can always be reinvented. Just look at ALL the covers posted on YouTube these days.
